If genetics have any play in this, I got my mom's genes. I don't know much about this one. I think I had it when I was a little kid. I was always hatching moneymaking schemes. My favorite one was when Sandy Olsen and I took all the soaps my dad had swiped from hotels and lathered them up until they were just a dirty foamy mess. Then we added food coloring and maybe even dirt and tried to sell it to all the neighbors as the "Miracle Cleanser."

I am perennially covetous of people's stuff, but that's less a factor of Abject Greed than Object Gluttony. And we're talking about greed here, not envy. (See how nicely I file all my sins into the two categories I can't deny?) Most of the rich people I know are complete assholes. Which confuses me: if you're loaded, shouldn't you go around happy all the time? If you don't have to worry about how you're going to make rent, shouldn't you be extra nice to the peons you work with? After almost two years at an investment bank, I've learned that the love of money really is the root of all evil.
