I'm glad it went so well. What cast on did you teach? Which one would be the best to teach a bunch of 12- and 13-yr-olds?

Oh, how exciting! It's totally fun to see Gundel and my mittens on TV and see Ravelry buttons all the way in Germany.
Way to go with the knitting lessons, sassafras!

Wow! Gundel & Fiddlehead Mittens-both famous in Germany! I understood very little of what they were saying, but it sounded good!

Gundel I am not even going to try and load the video on my slow dialup connection, but I'm going to assume it's super awesome
I've been having fun with baby booties.

Those booties are super sweet, Sarah!
I made a cowl the other night, but didn't really like how it turned out so I started poking around on Ravelry to see if I could find a pattern. Yep, there was one, pretty much identical to what I knit without a pattern, but if I had looked at it first I would have done a few things differently and probably would have a new cowl right now.

Those booties are so adorable! We always have the dial-up experience when on vacation. I totally understand you don't want to even try loading a video.

They certainly are. So tiny!
I have a cowl in progress, too. Friday I picked up a lonely skein of chunky alpaca from the clearance bin and could not put it down for the softness, so it came home with me. A quick search on ravelry lead me to this cowl. I'm about 2/3 of the way done.

Yay for those adorable baby booties!
I'm going to take a spinning class with Lynne Vogel (of Twisted Sisters fame) April 5th and I'm most excited!

I have looked at that booties pattern a million times. It's just adorable! The sweater is amazing too - love the trim on the plackett (is that what it's called?!)

That sweater is outstanding, sylvie. Oddly enough, I have one half made for myself in the same colors. I also have that ribbon. Someday, perhaps Jed and I will cross paths and freak out because we have matching sweaters on.
I'm just a crochet maniac, lately. I ordered a gazillion balls of amazingly-colored crochet cotton off eBay and eagerly await their arrival. I will make potholders that burn retinas.

Sylvie, that sweater is beyond cute! Crochet cotton will be the next thing I'll buy! If only I could remember the pattern for my favourite potholder, which we made in elementary school.

i know. i saw the ribbon on your flickr site and it inspired the sweater. i want a sweater, too!
now my nephew just needs to get born so that i can see if the sweater will fit. he has a month to go before the due date and is well over 7 pounds already.
are these potholders you speak of shaped like fruit?

We do, because my first thought was related to boobs.
Sylvie, that's a fabulous little sweater. Now you must cast on a sweater for yourself.
So I finished my cowl and sewed it up while gabbing on the phone. I sewed it very neatly, very securely. Also, inside out.

Steel, DOH!
Sylvie, I commented on the photo on Flickr, but I shall proclaim it here too....that sweater is on beyond badass awesome.
I also have some of those same ribbons, but have yet to figure out what to do with them aside from gazing at them lovingly.
Thanks for the booties love! They are redonkulously wee and I can't quite believe there are feet that tiny.

Then hope that your baby has such small feet. I was born with huge feet, my first baby shoes were in a size that other people buy when their toddlers learn to walk, they grew until I was about 6/7 yrs to a size 38 (US7) and then stopped.
I'll ask my mom where she hides that particular potholder.

i do that a lot, too. the day after they came in the mail, i took them to work and stared at them all day.

Potholder!
Sass, I also found a mistake in the instructions you linked to. So I might have to crochet a bit to see what one shall do. Other than that, it's easy.

Gundel, that potholder is powerfully awesome!
Hmm, I just looked it up on Ravelry, and they mention there being a problem with it, but no one seems to state the correction.

I've seen that one in English, as well. It's somewhere in one of the links to patterns in the sidebar. I don't have time right now, but if I find it again, I'll post.
Does "topflappen" mean "potholder"? Because that is the BEST WORD EVER. If it's so, then I will only ever say topflappen for the rest of my life, along with klompen for clogs.
